Having grown up in Williamsburg Brooklyn in New York, I really felt this. I grew up watching the change my neighborhood went through. Like you, I was thrilled to see these changes at first, happy to have new, younger neighbors and cute shops and nice places to eat. Now though, my neighborhood feels transient, like a giant college quad that most of the people here feel no pride in. They drove up prices so that a two bedroom apartment costs no less than $3,000/month (on the low end), but they throw trash in the street and refuse to become part of the community they’ve overtaken. It makes me so sad.
